Buhoma Lodge in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Buhoma Lodge is a rare gem nestled at the edge of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in southwestern Uganda. Known for its intimate proximity to the mountain gorillas, this eco-friendly haven offers a soul-stirring experience. Located just 5 minutes walk from the park headquarters, Buhoma Lodge allows guests to begin their hike directly from the lodge without the need for early transport.

Surrounded by the verdant canopies of ancient rainforest, this exclusive lodge blends warm hospitality, luxurious living, and raw wilderness into a unique offering that appeals to nature lovers, adventurers, photographers, and conservationists alike.

Location of Buhoma Lodge

Buhoma Lodge is one of only two lodges situated within the actual park boundaries, giving guests an unparalleled advantage for early morning gorilla trekking. Imagine waking up to the calls of the forest, enjoying a steaming cup of Ugandan coffee, and then strolling to your gorilla trekking briefing all without the need for transport. This proximity ensures fewer logistics, less stress, and more time in nature, making it the preferred choice for seasoned travelers. The lodge is strategically located to offer panoramic views of the forested hills, and it's common to hear the rustling of leaves as primates pass through nearby.

Eco-Luxury Cottages – Chalets

Buhoma Lodge offers ten cozy, spacious cottages, each constructed using locally sourced materials, blending seamlessly with the environment. The cottages are raised on wooden stilts, providing sweeping views of the mist-covered rainforest from private verandas.

Every room is ensuite, with flushing toilets, hot showers powered by solar energy, and comfortable large beds draped in soft mosquito nets. The interiors exude warmth with their earth-toned décor, timber furnishings, and locally crafted artwork. In keeping with its strong eco-conscious ethos, Buhoma Lodge uses solar power for electricity and lighting, practices rainwater harvesting, and maintains a minimal ecological footprint.

Dining and Cuisine at Buhoma Lodge

At the heart of Buhoma Lodge is the elevated central lounge, complete with a cozy fireplace, bar, and open-air dining deck. Here, guests are treated to a rotating menu of gourmet meals, thoughtfully prepared using fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Whether it’s a three-course dinner by candlelight or breakfast with the sunrise, each meal is lovingly crafted using organic local ingredients.

From hearty Ugandan specialties to international favorites, the chefs at Buhoma Lodge accommodate dietary restrictions with care and creativity. Vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free meals are available upon request, and freshly baked bread, tropical fruit, and locally brewed coffee start each day. Evenings at the lodge are highlighted by communal dining, where guests share stories of gorilla encounters and wildlife sightings while enjoying panoramic views of the forest under starlit skies.

Wellness at Buhoma Lodge

After a day of trekking or forest exploration, guests can unwind with in-room massage services provided by trained local therapists. Using natural oils and techniques passed down through generations, these massages help soothe tired muscles and rejuvenate the spirit. The lodge also offers quiet meditation spots, perfect for early morning yoga or simply soaking in the peaceful energy of the forest. Nature walks and birdwatching excursions can be arranged for guests looking to experience Bwindi’s biodiversity beyond gorilla tracking.

How to Get to Buhoma Lodge

Buhoma Lodge is located in the northern sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, which is the most accessible from Kampala or Entebbe. Travel options include:

We recommend booking well in advance during the peak gorilla trekking seasons of June to September and December to February as permits and rooms are limited.
